Calgary Stampede Events Kill and Torture Animals for Entertainment

stam·pede (stamˈpēd)

  • noun -.a sudden panicked rush of a number of horses, cattle, or other animals.
  • verb - (of horses, cattle, or other animals) rush wildly in a sudden mass panic.

The animal deaths and torture for barbaric entertainment at the annual Calgary Stampede must stop. As a civilized society, we can no longer stand by and observe the mounting animal casualties at this yearly event. A casualty count, as compiled by an animal welfare agency, 1986 - 2018 statistics (Vancouver Humane Society) indicates decades of incidents of animal death and injury for no purpose other than entertainment. To quote a footnote... 'There are many more animals used behind the scenes to perfect the “cowboys’” rodeo skills. These figures do NOT include animals that were injured and/or killed for these practices.'

Your Worship, Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary,

Enough is enough! Please end events that unnecessarily showcase bravado through harm and torment to live animals. In this day and age, there are alternative humane means of displaying skills (i.e. mechanical bulls). Thank you.
