Meghan Katie started this petition to Calgary MLAs and

Calgary is the last city in Alberta that has a pet store that sells puppies.  These puppies are claimed to be purchased through "ethical breeders", but the owners of the store will not tell their clients who the breeders are and under NO circumstance would an ethical breeder EVER sell to a third party never knowing who the puppy ends up with.  In 2018, the second last store located in West Edmonton Mall had 500 animals seized for neglect.  Petland banned the sale of pets (unless rescues) and reputable pet food companies won't even wholesale to stores like this one because of selling puppies. As a mama to a puppy mill puppy, I have heard too many people pour their hearts out to me about the dogs they have purchased through this store.  Mixed breeds sold for 1000's, resulting in impulse buying for desperate families and years-long wait list with good breeders.  Let's put Calgary on the map like Vancouver as a city that is progressive and goes beyond viewing our pets not just as property, but as family.
