Close down Calgary Schools due to COVID-19 PROTECT OUR CHILDREN

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

This Petition is to close ALL CALGARY PUBLIC SCHOOLS because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Our kids and the staff members are taking the bus or commuting to school every day, contacting a lot people on the way and within schools, and at times ESPECIALLY during class changes, students come into close proximity of each other within the hallways, (the figure being much larger than the recommended maximum of 250). They are in a dangerous situation as we can't be sure the next case will be someone dear to us. Let us not wait for an individual to test positive but make sure we close schools before that happens.

There are currently 39 confirmed cases in Alberta (3/15/20) with possible community transmission. Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced five new cases of the COVID-19 virus, including three in Alberta Health Services’ Calgary zone. (Two of the new cases — one in the Edmonton zone and one in the Calgary zone — have been admitted into intensive care, according to Alberta Health).

School boards in Ontario have already made the right decision and closed as of today (3/15/20). Don't wait for our children to get infected, let us take serious measure and close schools! Proactive closures (before anyone tests positive at the schools) are vastly more effective than reactive ones (after someone tests positive). Social distancing is key, and we need to move swiftly.
