Cal Poly students have been utilizing the Escort Van as their primary source of transportation to their homes within a mile radius of the school. This quarter, the service had been denied to the students living off campus. 

Many students have developed a reliance on the Escort Van to go home during nighttime. The students that considered a close proximity to the school as a high priority in choosing off-campus housing usually do not have a means of motor transportation. Those students walk, bus, or bike to campus. 

Unfortunately, buses come infrequently after 6:00 pm and completely stop after 10:00 pm. However, there are some classes that go on until 10:00 pm and students may also have to stay later to use Cal Poly's resources, such as the library or studios. That leaves biking and walking as the only means of getting home after a tiring day. Both options compromise a student's safety by compelling them to travel, often alone, at night. 

The Escort Van's main purpose is to provide a safe journey for the students to their residence. This service is just as essential to students who live near Cal Poly as their on-campus peers, for example, those who need a ride from the library to the Red Bricks.
