"Apple" THP was approved by CAL FIRE a few days ago. "Apple" is a hill-slope logging. We had hoped to have CAL FIRE consider it as contiguous to "Dogwood," but they chose not to.
Please be aware "Dogwood" it the bad apple here. The logging company has requested a thirty day extension from CAL FIRE. Why? We don't know. "Dogwood" would log in the floodplains of the Gualala River, something we adamantly oppose. Your previous comments are in the hands of CAL FIRE and we hope they reject this ill-advised THP.
In the meantime, a public forum, hosted by the Chair and Co-Chair of GMAC, will be held on Thursday, March 17th at 5:30 pm at the Gualala Community Center. PLEASE ATTEND THIS IMPORTANT MEETING!
Here is the notice from Robert Juengling, Chair of GMAC:
To Gualala area residents and interested parties,
At the January & February meetings of the Gualala Municipal Advisory
Council (GMAC) , councilors have discussed and recommended that a public
forum be held on the proposed "Dogwood" Timber Harvest Plan (THP).
The "Dogwood" THP (1-15-042 SON) extends from the mouth of the Gualala
River up stream for 5 miles on the Gualala River floodplain redwood
forest, and has generated substantial local public interest and commentary.
CAL FIRE officials and elected State and County lawmakers will be
invited to attend and respond to comments. The timberland owner, Gualala
Redwoods Timber LLC, will also be invited.
The purpose of the public forum is to facilitate a dialogue between
local stakeholders of the Gualala River Watershed, CAL FIRE, and elected
officials ; and to be heard with regards to THP 01-15-042SON , proposed
by Gualala Redwoods Timber Co.
We hereby request your attendance on Thursday March 17, 2016 at the
Gualala Community Center starting at 5:30 pm. The meeting will be
facilitated by local citizens Robert Juengling, and Charlie Ivor, also
known by their positions on GMAC, as Chair and Co-Chair respectively.
Appropriate allocation of speaker times and the forum will be managed by
Mr. Ivor and Mr. Juengling. We sincerely appreciate your time and input
on this important topic of community and area wide concern.
Please RSVP to:
