When Cafepress began, they would pay artists who submitted designs the difference between a base price and a sell price. For instance, if a T-shirt cost $10.99 to make, and the artist sold it for $15.99, he'd make $5. Then, in 2009, Cafepress decided that they'd only pay 10% of the sale price if people discovered it through the search of their store rather than a direct link from the artist. So that $5 royalty dropped to a staggering $1.60. Now, on Nov. 1, 2013, they are stating that the artist has to be active on the site, load new designs often, get followers--basically jump through hoops or they won't even get 10%. They can pay as low as 5%.

Not many consumers are aware of the tactics sites like Cafepress use to deprive artists of income. I am calling upon every purchaser, every artist, everyone who thinks that this is outright unfair to sign this petition and make ALL royalities, regardless of how a product is discovered, the original artist-decided sell price minus base price. Your support will be heard worldwide. This affects thousands of artists! Vic
