The Issue

In recent months there has been a rise in hate crime, racist attacks and un-lawful and brutal treatment of black people by police in the UK. In the USA we are seeing the shocking killings of black men and brutality of black people by police. It has been filmed live on camera - it is time to act.

  1. We call on all RBKC cabinet members and MP for Kensington, Felicity Buchan to speak out and demand Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the head of the Metropolitan Police take serious steps to show racism is not acceptable in the UK.

These include (but are not limited to) demanding:

  1. Public statements speaking out and taking action against the misuse of the law by Police in relation to stop and search.
  2. Steps to ensure new Covid19 laws do not lead to further racial profiling by the Police.
  3. Institutional racism in the UK Police Force is treated as a national crisis.

Further reasons to sign.

Black people are being unnecessarily targeted for stop and search as they were when the discredited Sus law was enforce. Abuse of power and infringements of civil liberties of vulnerable people is dangerously provocative behaviour. We must act to ensure the safety and rights for all UK citizens and prevent further race related deaths and brutality and maintain social cohesion in our communities.

Dawn Buttler MP has said she making an enquiry with the Metropolitan police about such an incident, but it should not be left to a black MP to act. We call on the RBKC council cabinet members and MP Felicity Buchan to show initiative and togetherness at this time.

North Kensington is home to 5 generations of Windrush families, we have all experienced the troubles that are born out of colonial oppression. We call on residents, those working in Kensington, people with connections to the area and anyone concerned by the current events to speak out, stand united, Say No to Racism and sign this petition.
