Neither of the city of Huntington’s middle schools have a football field or any type of sports complex. Huntington East Middle School doesn’t even have an area for students to even go outside unless they are standing on concrete or pavement. Milton Middle school has been allotted approximately $3 million to build a football field and sports complex. Barboursville Middle School already has a football field with facilities and was approved for $40,000 to replace their bleachers. Huntington East Middle Schools football team is bused to a field to practice on that has no restrooms or even a sink with running water. They have to get water from a hose. There is raw sewage that covers the parking lot when it rains. They share this field with the local youth league and there is no sufficient parking for parents to retrieve their children after practices. The students attending HEMS don’t have an area to go outside during lunch, PE, or any other class that could allow for outdoor learning. This is said to be a state of the art school but lacks necessary facilities that shouldn’t be an option. We are asking for you signature to support our efforts to obtain a football field for our school as well as an area for our children to be able to go outside.
