Saftey first on Odell School Rd

Saftey first on Odell School Rd
The Issue
The traffic between highway 3 and highway 73 on Odell School Rd has gotten out of control over the last 10 years!
This is a rural, agricultural road, that has turned into a highway! Tractors have been run off the road, children almost hit at bus stops, bikers disregarded, horses and cattle put in danger, property damaged, & residents yelled at, cussed at & flipped off for turning into their own driveways, not to mention the ones who have actually been hit by someone refusing to slow down!
The speed limit is 45, yet people consistently travel in excess of 65 miles an hour. There is a sharp curve where Windy Rd joins up with Odell School Rd that is marked as 20mph, yet semi trucks, delivery trucks, and cars alike, constantly take this curve at over 40 miles an hour. Too often, they miss the curve completely and plow into trees, buildings, and even homes. There have been numerous accidents on this road, as well as repeated near misses & fender benders that have gone unreported. Because of this, the data the NCDOT is using to determine the need to reduce the speed & put up more signage is not accurate and the lives and saftey of the residents on this road are in danger.
We residents have witnessed head on collisions, fatalities, and had our lives put in danger by drivers exceeding the speed limit & driving unsafely, without repercussion. The residents on this road have petitioned Cabarrus County as well as the Department of Transportation for years without success & demand that proper attention is given this dire matter!
Multi axle semi trucks have no business being on this road & should be diverted to Kannapolus Parkway. This is a multi-lane parkway with higher speeds that drivers should be made aware of, as most are not. These trucks slam on their breaks, waking residents late at night, which is another reason they should not be allowed on this road.
We humbly ask that you sign the petition to have NCDOT reduce the speed limit to 35, divert multi axel vehicles to a more appropriate route, and add the necessary signage to this road to reflect its usage (tractors, horses, bikes, no multi axels vehicles, no jake brakes, etc)
Thank you
