CA State Funding - Support for Cayenne Wellness Center

The Issue

Cayenne Wellness Center (CWC) is a warrior-led, warrior-serving lifeline for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease (SCD), referred to as “sickle cell warriors”. For over twenty-five years, CWC has been a beacon of hope, providing indispensable services that address the unique challenges faced by the SCD community. These services include free mental health counseling, assistance with locating a medical home, education, and community support—all tailored to enhance the quality of life for those impacted by this serious and often debilitating condition.

Continued state funding is needed now because federal funding is uncertain at best, treatment options are contracting, and health care plans are not paying for vital services.

Sickle cell disease is often overlooked despite being the most common genetic blood disorder, disproportionately affecting African American and Hispanic communities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 100,000 Americans are impacted by SCD, with life expectancy significantly lower compared to the general population. This represents not just a medical issue but also a stark health disparity that urgently needs addressing. In California, more than 8,000 Medi-Cal and CHIP members are living with sickle cell disease.

By signing this petition, I am standing in solidarity with CWC, the families it supports, and the countless individuals whose lives will be devastated if they lose this critical nonclinical infrastructure. I support to help ensure that sickle cell warriors receive the compassionate care and critical resources they so desperately need. Like

·      no cost mental health

·      no cost transportation

·      no cost childcare/respite care

·      rental and/or utilities assistance

·      housing assistance

Together, we can make a difference and help Cayenne Wellness Center continue its essential mission. Let's act now to advocate for those whose voices are too often unheard.

Join us in urging the relevant authorities to approve this funding request. Please lend your voice and support by signing this petition today.  DEADLINE:  Aug  12, 2026.

Thank you.
