CA and SEGA: Reasonable pricing to Reasonable Content.

CA and SEGA: Reasonable pricing to Reasonable Content.

The Issue

Dear CA and SEGA,

This latest DLC appears to have the lowest content to price value proposition that's ever been offered in the timeline of the Warhammer series. After waiting the majority of a quarter for an update, we've got a known issue list update the size of a tweet. The core gameplay experience is not where it should be and the time taken between content drops and patches has been severely inadequate for a long time now.

It's one thing for those of us who earn a solid living in the wealthiest Countries to purchase a DLC for half the price of a brand new AAA game, but for an average person in say, Brazil, this DLC could be a quarter of a years earnings. It's half the price of most game of the year titles at launch, and if you think anyone believes that the resources spent or the value offered make sense of the price, with respect, you're wrong.

The aim of this petition is for a change to CA and SEGA's approach of leaving the game's quality in a ditch for several months before injecting DLCs with minimal bugfixes and game improvements, while skyrocketing the price.

We want the appropriate allocation resources to a game that needs updating every month not every quarter. It is for CA to increase the value of these DLCs, and to not charge us half the price of a just-released AAA game.

It just looks like abuse of the loyalty of their consumer base, and while that may brute force profits in the short term, it is terminating trust in their company and slowly deteriorating the loyalty to their largest concurrent cash-cow. We don't want this, we want this series and the greater Total War Franchise to survive with the utmost longevity (and dare I say improve), but it's not going to if they carry on this way.

To the signatories of this petition, hold off on buying the game until CA fixes the value proposition of the DLC. You won't have to wait long if enough people participate, but without that collective commitment, it will only get worse. You train others as to how they treat you, the same applies to parasocial relationships and marketplaces. Vote with your wallet.

Or, we decide that we don't care, and they can do whatever they want. But therein, the statement is made. Then who knows, maybe the next DLC will have 6 units, 3 Lords, no Generic Heroes or Lords, and will have the MSRP of £30.

With a complete evaluation of the DLC based on the information provided thus far, CA is offering 3 Legendary Lords, 2 Legendary Heroes, 8 unique units, 1 Generic Hero and 1 Generic Lord, Regiments of Renown yet to be revealed. Then there's a couple of Reskinned models here and there to tie it all together. Retailing at £20/$22.50/25€.

Compare that to I don't know...

Warden and the Paunch: 9 unique units +3 Variants, 4 RoRs, 5 Mistwalker units. 1 Generic Lord, 1 Generic Hero, 2 Legendary Lords and a free Legendary Lord.

Currently available on Steam for £8/$9.99

Or...

Prophet and the Warlock: 2 Legendary Lords, 1 free Legendary Lord, 9 units, 16 RoRs, 2 Generic Lord types, 5 Workshop units.

Again, £8/$9.99

Ostensibly, some real comparative value that is gained is in the form of the increased art development costs with the extra Legendary Hero, and the large, fancy SEMs that are shown in the trailer. So maybe a 10-20% price hike could have been justified, but 150%? I don't think so.

To conclude: this petition can be rendered successful by either a (what I would consider reasonable) 25% price reduction either in the form of a larger preorder discount or a flat reduction, to bring it more in line with say, the Champions of Chaos DLC. Alternatively, by increasing the value of the aggregate content.

Here are some examples:

- Add a separately textured Cockatrice to the Beastmen Roster.

- Allow the Beastmen to recruit the Elemental Incarnate of Beasts.

- Add a the Mutalith Hellbeast variant of the Vortex Beast to various other Chaos factions.

- Add at least 2 more Variants of the Tzaangor.

- Reveal the long-requested Tzeentchian Chaos Lord and Exalted Hero for Tzeentch and Warriors of Chaos.

- Add dismounted Chaos Dragons (they're already in the game for crying out loud)

- Reveal a Generic Hero for Cathay.

- Reveal that there's both a Generic Hero and Lord type coming to Kislev.

- The patch notes, they'd better be a 12 page Novella. The game is riddled with bugs and my dog went through his youth in dog years in the time it took for WH3 to become truly playable after launch. Even on its latest patch it's still not even remotely close to good enough after the entire year the game has purportedly been worked on.

That is all.
