Thank you for all your support on this petition! We have been heard! I received good news. I recently noticed an update post by a friend, another member of the BYU Native American alumni, who recently wrote to President Worthen that Professor of Law Michalyn Steele of the Seneca Nation has been included in the BYU committee organized to address issues of race and inequality. This is what my friend shared:

“I emailed President Worthen [on June 26, 2020], and he graciously responded by stating; ‘...yesterday [June 25, 2020] we added Michalyn Steele (on the law school faculty) to the committee.’ Our hearts and voices were heard. Thank you President Worthen.”

We are only less than 130 signatures from 1000 signatures on this petition that requested a Native American representative on the respective BYU committee. I have been touched by all the support and coming together to advocate for Native American representation in higher education. I am so happy that university administrators and the community are listening. I wish all the best for this committee. Thank you for standing with us and helping to get the word out. Native American and Indigenous people are still here. We still exist. We count. We matter. Thank you! Hózhǫ́ó naasháa doo. Walk in Beauty. In every step.
