TEN YEARS of police writing tickets vs Traffic Calming

TEN YEARS of police writing tickets vs Traffic Calming
The Issue
The photo is a daily near miss or accident at Sollers Point Rd. at Avon Beach Rd.
Turner Station Residents,
In our 2003 Baltimore County approved Community Conservation Plan we requested traffic calming. For the last 10 years we have submitted requests for traffic calming on Sollers Point Road, Main Street, Sollers Point at Avondale/Avon Beach (4 way stop sign—every day there is a near miss at this intersection), and all of our requests have been systematically rejected. Meanwhile we have seen traffic calming added to streets where residents never even submitted a request.
Recently Sollers Point has gotten so bad that cars have been total loss and residents have come close to being run over trying to get in their cars. One of my neighbors keeps spare mirrors for his older truck because it gets knocked off about once a month. Insurance companies are paying a small fortune for these repairs which drives up all of our insurance. I submitted a video of a child almost hit in front of my house and years ago a child was hit at Sollers Point and Main Street. One local resident lost the baby she was pregnant with after an accident at Sollers Point Rd and Avondale Road intersection. On June 3, 2020 my new neighbor had his truck mirror knocked off. After repairs someone hit his truck again! That same week someone ran over the stop sign at Sollers Point Rd and Avon Beach Rd. Today, June 12, 2020 there was another serious accident at this same intersection. The week of December 24, 2019 two cars were hit in the same week on Sollers Point Road. .
Occasionally police will sit at Sollers Point at Avondale to write tickets for speeding or stop sign violation. The cost of that vital asset sitting all day and repeated for 10 years, could easily cover the installation of speed humps and a 4 way stop sign. Many years ago residents requested changing Avon Beach Road to one way heading towards Broening Highway, and Sollers Point one way from Main Street to Avondale Road.
This is a safety issue that has been ignored for far too long. We are demanding action before there is loss of life. Too often that seems to be the bar that has to to be raised before action is taken. "
