Open BYU Helaman Halls Vending Machines

The Issue

We are allowed to use the same bathrooms, doorknobs, laundry machines, and drinking fountains; however, we do not have access to food in our building. We understand measures must be taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19, but do not believe shutting down our Vending Machines is a solution. The lobbies can remain roped off while still allowing access for students to get food in between zoom classes; the RA's monitor right outside the door anyways. Social distancing and masks should still be enforced when quickly purchasing an item.

Student Vending Employees have been put out of jobs. Dorm sales were Vending's main source of income since Covid-19. Each machine is sanitized and cleaned regularly. Covid-19 is much more likely to get spread from the crowded line at the Helaman Creamery- having machines in every building reduces crowds and saves students from waiting 20 minutes to buy an apple.

It is a Sunday afternoon and Helaman Halls residents are so hungry from having only one Cannon Center meal that day. Sign this petition if you believe in our cause! We support BYU's decisions regarding the Corona Virus and ask to have a voice. It is time to open up the Vending Machines.
