Turkeys on Butterball's factory farms are treated inhumanely, and it needs to stop. Workers kick, punch, step on, and mutilate turkeys. After Exposé footage from Mercy For Animals revealed how these kind, intelligent birds are treated, Butterball was raided by police, and multiple workers were charged with cruelty to animals. 

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals investigators also documented cruelty in a slaughterhouse owned by Butterball. Workers were seen stomping on turkeys until their skulls exploded, putting their fingers into turkey's vaginas, and swinging turkeys into metal poles. 

The slaughter process used by Butterball is one of the cruelest ways to kill poultry. They will be shackled by the legs, dunked into electrified water, their throats will be slit, and they are dunked in boiling water to defeather them. Even though the electrified water is supposed to stun them, they can still feel pain afterwards.

The conditions the turkeys live in are horrible. They suffer in ammonia filled sheds, with horrible air quality, no room to move, and no medical care available to turkeys that need it.

What Butterball needs to do to improve the welfare of their turkeys:

-Fire workers who hurt or kill turkeys.

-Improve the quality of living for the turkeys by improving the air quality, providing them with bedding, and giving them the veterinary care that they need.

-Switch to controlled-atmosphere killing, the most humane way to slaughter poultry.

With simple improvements like these, turkeys at ButterBall will live a much happier life.
