Irving Square Dog Run (Judah's Run)

The Issue

Brooklyn is the new Manhattan and Bushwick is one of New York City's fastest growing areas, which means gentrification is at hand. With gentrification comes and influx of dogs as millennials and younger New Yorkers are part of a growing trend to have pets in lieu of children, or to hold off having them until later in life. With this trend comes the need for safe, clean and commissioned spaces for our four legged friends to run, play and socialize.

There are limited spaces designated as off leash areas in Brooklyn and the travel distance required to reach these areas is unfeasible for most dog owners. Irving Square Park currently has off leash times from 9-9:30 am and 9-9:30 pm, time slots that do not accommodate the people who's only free time is in the afternoon.

There is a fenced off section of Irving Square that is unused and would be perfect for a dog run. Often only used to dispose of broken glass and garbage, help us get the necessary signatures to have this section reclaimed and converted into a safe and clean area for Bushwick's dog population to exercise freely. To date we have removed over 37 pounds of broken glass out of this often unused section of the park.
