Florence Unified School District does not provide bus transportation in the afternoons for students residing in Rancho Bella Vista going to Poston Butte High School.  According to the school, those of us in RBV reside within a “walkable area”. My family lives almost in the middle of the neighborhood and from our home it’s a one mile walk, 38 minutes and through a very dangerous intersection where students have been hit by cars and even killed. The other option is to cut through the fields that border the north side of our neighborhood, which is not much better. Also, with the amount of development in our area those fields could be gone anytime in the future, cutting off that route. While there is a bus in the morning it drops the students off at the school at 6:15 am, almost a full hour before school starts. 

No afternoon bus means students who are unable to be picked up by a parent or carpool are forced to walk a mile or more in the dangerous heat in the middle of the afternoon. School starts tomorrow and the high is forecasted at 114’. The weather is just as dangerous as the traffic. 

Having a morning and afternoon bus route through our neighborhood will only help, not hurt. Please sign this petition so we can advocate for our children’s safety!
