Bus route Request to Carrell Elementary from Cypresscreek East
The Issue
Every morning I watch my child embark on a 2-mile journey to Carroll Elementary School, and each time my heart fills with dread. The road they traverse is not just long but perilous, dotted with speeding vehicles, inadequate pedestrian crossings, and the unsettling presence of an open pond with no protective grills. This isn't just a personal worry—it's a widespread concern shared by many parents in the Cypresscreek East community.
Our children deserve to get to school safely, but currently, the "walk zone" poses significant risks that demand immediate attention. The area lacks sufficient pedestrian infrastructure, which forces our young ones to navigate high-traffic roads without proper crossings or sidewalks. The existing open pond near the path is particularly alarming, presenting a serious hazard to any wandering child.
Statistics show that pedestrian injuries are a leading cause of death for children, and numerous studies emphasize the importance of safe walking routes to school to prevent accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that children's risk as pedestrians is significantly reduced when designated walkways, speed bumps, and warning signs are properly implemented. Therefore, it is crucial that we act now to mitigate these risks in our community.
We urge city planners and local officials to prioritize the safety of our children by:
PLEASE PROVIDE BUS UNTILL ISSUES ARE FIXED.
Conduct proper walkzone survey by independent body.
- Installing protective grills around the open pond to prevent accidental falls.
- Need more school cross gaurds as we have multiple road to cross and have open water body.
- create proper walk path for kids as we do not have full path till school still.
- Implementing speed reduction measures, such as speed bumps and traffic-calming signs, on the roads leading to Carroll Elementary School.
- Constructing proper sidewalks and pedestrian crossings to ensure a safe passage for our students.
- Increasing police patrols during school arrival and dismissal times to monitor traffic.
Together, we can transform our community into a safer one for all children. Please, let's take action now. Sign this petition to demand that our city officials address these pressing safety issues and provide a secure route for our children to walk to school.
