Save The Village Haul - Stop the vintage fair franchise in Prestwich
This petition made change with 519 supporters!
The Village Haul is a successful and popular vintage fair in Prestwich, started in 2013 by three vintage enthusiasts to give the people of the village a vintage fair of their own. We have received a lot of support from locals, behind us in this homegrown event that celebrates our community.
We have showcased local talent and got hundreds of locals down to the Community Centre to shop, eat cake, drink tea and listen to music.
The reason we have created this petition is that Bury Council has recently given an exclusive franchise for vintage markets in Prestwich to one organisation, with the result that nobody else will be granted a licence to hold vintage fairs in this area for the duration of the tender.
We were given no notification about this tender (although we had previously held Council licensed events in Prestwich) and were only told of this decision when we applied to hold another Village Haul. With this franchise in place, we will have no choice or variety of vintage fairs/markets in Prestwich.
We really enjoyed filling our Community Centre with talented traders and happy, enthusiastic locals and feel our village fair has a lot of social value.
We are asking for signatures on this petition to present to Bury Council in the hope that they will rethink creating a monopoly in this way, that restricts diversity and business in Prestwich and stops us from enjoying a village fair.
If you would like to save The Village Haul and disagree with Bury Council giving individuals a franchise to run fairs or markets in Prestwich, please sign our petition.
