It's a hobby. Not a performance review. Not a commercial enterprise.
Update:
The council tenancy agreement says 2 inspections per year. That's what plot holders signed up for.
But the committee insists on inspecting every few weeks – as if we are being performance-managed. As if growing vegetables is a commercial enterprise.
It's not. You rent your land to grow, to express yourself, to find peace. It doesn't matter if some plots are not as pristine as others. It's a hobby, not a commercial enterprise.
The problem is interpretation.
The rules are vague enough to allow the committee to interpret them however they want. And they use that interpretation to pressure plot holders – usually the ones they don't like.
What is "rubbish"? Horse manure – if they decide it is. What is "75% cultivated"? Whatever they decide on the day. A fruit tree with a 10ft canopy takes up space – is that cultivated? They get to decide.
Why do they do this?
If they weren't so obsessed with feeling important or being in control, it would be better. But when insecure people want to feel secure, they take control. They micro-manage. They create pressure. They do it to feel important and secure – to the detriment of everyone else.
The council empowers this behaviour.
The council says the committee are "officers of the council." The committee repeats this like a mantra. The council has the evidence. They have done nothing.
And hobbies are being destroyed.
What I want:
· 2 inspections a year – as per the tenancy agreement
· Clear, objective definitions – not committee interpretation
· The AGM restored – so the committee can be voted on
· The council to stop empowering destructive behaviour
