Building Bigger Fences Around Roads To protect Wildlife from Dying

The issue

Every year, an estimated 10 million animals die on Australian roads. This greatly impacts native species and endangered species, causing them to become extinct faster. The government has installed small fences at the sides of roads, but this isn't enough for larger animals such as kangaroos, as they can easily jump over them. We need bigger and taller fences that would prevent large animals from passing through onto roads and fences that would also prevent smaller animals, such as echidnas and koalas from crawling through holes in the fences.

Our local governments and councils can change this. They have the power to change this. If we win this petition, millions of animals lives would be saved each year. Thousands of native animals would live. Hundreds of endangered live would go on.

Another benefit to adding higher fences is that there might also be less road accidents with us humans. When animals jump onto the road suddenly, people swerve their cars, therefore leading to accidents. With higher fences, fewer animals would jump onto the road, causing less accidents.

We also have to think about how are animals going to pass to the other side of the road. This is because there might be a river, or a food source there and with a large fences obstructing there path the animals won't we able to get through. There is a simple solution to this. Every 10 or so metres, the council workers could dig a tunnel underneath the the roads so that they can get to the other side easily.
