Our community in Chilanga has been without piped water for more than twenty years, despite water pipes passing right through our main road. This lack of access to piped water in our homes has led every household to sink boreholes and dig septic tanks for sewerage which is a potential health hazard but has also led to the scarcity of underground water due to overuse. One of our residents had to dig five (5) boreholes without success on her plot on Sioma Ngwezi Avenue meanwhile there’s water passing right outside by her plot going to other areas. This takes away access to clean, accessible water, a basic human right and essential for daily living.

The President gave a directive that people living along the water pipelines should have access to the resource. This materialized for people in Kafue but not Chilanga. We need to leverage this directive and get piped water into our homes in Longridge.

According to the World Health Organization, access to safe drinking water can reduce the risk of diarrheal diseases by up to 25%. It's unacceptable that in 2024, our community still struggles with this basic necessity. We petition the Minister  to help us to connect to the existing water pipes so that every household in Longridge Chilanga can have access to piped water.
