Build Town Bunny Hill for Children in Park City - Encourage Their Recreation!
The Issue
Let's get together as a community and show support for the construction of a magic carpet or tow rope-equipped town bunny hill ! It's Park City... why don't we have one already?
If you are the parent of a child - a new skier - living in Park City, UT, then you are most likely aware of the difficulties that lie in getting them to the mountain(s) to utilize any bunny hills and magic carpets made available by the resorts. Here are just a few issues that make those facilities unrealistic a majority of the time:
- Paid parking ($25) - free parking is usually only available during nap time or times in which children are in school
- Resort closing times are around 4pm - nap time ending and end of day school times do not support an afternoon trip
- Access to bunny hill - parking fills up at each resort; Canyons is an hour up the mountain from Cabriolet, etc.
- Ability to focus - hundreds of other skiers, cool lifts, and all other chaos hinders a child's ability to focus on their own session
- Woodward - cost is not conducive to toddler skiers; parking fills up fast
- Lessons - the cost of lessons for a young person are still high, and typically it is fun for parents to guide their own children during the early years (saves money and creates a bond)
- Overall lack of convenience - cost, timing, locations, parking
These are only a few issues with the system for children as it stands. This generates frustration for parents and their children, and fosters a resentful experience. Moreover, children do not always want to hit the mountain for two hours. Rather, a run or two on some days is all they can manage - just like how we, as local adults, enjoy a couple hours on powder each day versus one full eight hour day in the week. Needless to say, an hour to get to a bunny hill just for two runs is not preferred for anyone in the situation.
Just as Basin Recreation's Trailside Bike Park has been a staple in our community for progression, fun, and family growth, so too can a town bunny hill during the winter.
Now is the time to act on this, because pushing it off only procrastinates failure. Additionally, Basin Recreation is currently working on their Master Plan and this would be a prime movement to include.
Let's gather the signatures of our community to express thorough interest in a town bunny hill, equipped with a tow rope and magic carpet. There is strength in numbers and Park City wields it well!
... and don't forget to SHARE the link and encourage others to sign!
