The Issue

In 2005, the residents of Richmond Hill, Georgia, made their voices heard by approving a referendum that promised not just a revitalized City Center but also the creation of a much-needed Aquatic Center. While the City Center now stands as a testament to what our community can achieve when it comes together, the promise of a public pool has gone unfulfilled for nearly two decades. This petition calls upon the Richmond Hill City Council and the Mayor to take immediate action to build the pool we were assured.

Since the initial commitment, our city has grown, and with that growth, the demand for recreational amenities has only increased. The lack of a public pool places limits on community health, safety, and quality of life. Swimming is more than just a leisure activity; it is vital for teaching water safety, promoting exercise, and offering a space for families to gather and foster community ties. Our citizens deserve access to the benefits a community pool provides, including improved public health outcomes, increased community activity, and potential economic benefits from increased local tourism.

Richmond Hill is a vibrant city with families that would greatly benefit from the fulfillment of this promise. Organized sports and swimming lessons currently require travel to neighboring communities, putting further strain on families and creating barriers for children developing essential life skills. Providing a local facility ensures all residents, regardless of socioeconomic status, can access swimming in a supportive and convenient environment.

The petition aims not only to hold our leaders accountable but to ignite the necessary action to prioritize the Aquatic Center. We propose that the Richmond Hill City Council reassess budget allocations, explore public-private partnerships, and set a deadline for the project's completion. Collaborating with local stakeholders and community leaders will ensure this goal meets the needs of our diverse population.

The time is now to right this wrong and deliver the Aquatic Center Richmond Hill was promised. By signing this petition, you are standing up for the enrichment of our community and demanding the action needed to make the Richmond Hill public pool a reality. Let's unite and ensure our voices are heard. Please sign and share this with your friends, family, and neighbors who believe in fulfilling promises made to our community.
