We sent an email to the Director of Parks and Rec and informed him that we had contacted Artisan Skateparks, a company listed on the Sourcewell procurement site for the last two years. Artisan was able to provide us with concepts both at and below the budget we have for the skatepark at Westover. We shared these with Parks and Rec to show them examples of what beautiful concrete options we have at Westover that the skateboard community would absolutely adore.
The response we got back was favorable in that all work that was able to be halted on the park, was halted and that the Director of Parks and Rec would be in contact with the City Attorney to discuss what breaching the current contract with American Ramp Company would entail. This is the first step to a long journey but a step in the right direction.
We have maintained that we believe breaching any contract with American Ramp Company is a must in order to avoid the costly mistake of a metal skatepark as opposed to an equally affordable and far superior concrete one. Concrete is the industry standard, metal is a material of the past when it comes to skateparks; it is dangerously slick, loud, hot and very unsightly.
Our next step, will be attending the City Council meeting on Tuesday at 7PM to discuss our perspective directly with City Council in hopes to impart on them and everyone at Parks and Rec, that a concrete skatepark is the safest, most fun, longest lasting and affordable option when considering the skatepark at Westover. Furthermore, we hope that you will join us and share your support for this important issue at the City Council Chambers on Tuesday at 7PM. In the meantime, keep sharing this petition so that we may have 1000 signatures by the time we are in front of City Council. Thank you!
