In a difficult two-step puzzle box, a bumblebee can learn by observing a human teacher to get the sweet treat, and then teach other bumblebees to solve the puzzle.

We know honeybee’s “waggle dance” can communicate how to get to a rich flower patch miles away. Communal and solitary bees have language, can learn, and communicate information.

On an 8000’ high ridge in a New Mexico national forest, a camper decided to dig a latrine up slope near a pile of rocks. Shortly they were bitten by a bumblebee on the back of the armpit. A second digger received the same message, bitten in the same place. The mother bee protecting her brood nest, was so smart to attack from behind at a safe angle, in a sensitive spot. On that isolated, mountain ridge the bumblebee may have never engaged a person before, but she did it with genius to survive and communicate clearly!
