Build Shade Structures at Three Oaks Park Ball Fields.

Build Shade Structures at Three Oaks Park Ball Fields.
The Issue
For nearly three years, parents like myself have braved the scorching sun to cheer on our kids at the baseball and softball fields at Three Oaks Community Park in Fort Myers, FL. It's a wonderful experience, watching our children enjoy their favorite sports and develop teamwork skills. However, the lack of shade for the bleachers puts a damper on these moments. The intense Florida sun poses health risks such as heatstroke and dehydration, and access to shaded seating is vital for enjoying games safely and comfortably.
$1.3 million dollars was awarded to Lee County to build and update shade structures at various parks in Lee County. This was back in 2022 ... where did that money go?
Wink News - Funding? We didn't see any investment into our park.
Building shade structures over the bleachers is not just a matter of comfort; it’s a necessary step towards ensuring the well-being of all spectators, especially the elderly and young children. Many community parks across the country recognize this need and have implemented solutions to provide relief from the sun. By following suit, Lee County could greatly enhance the experience at Three Oaks Community Park, encouraging more families to participate and support local sports.
Moreover, shaded seating would likely increase attendance at the games, which benefits everyone involved—from the players who enjoy the cheers and support, to the community vendors who rely on game-day sales. It would serve as a motivation for other parks to do the same and demonstrate Lee County’s commitment to its residents’ well-being.
Aside from providing shade, these structures would also protect parents and children from foul balls.
The construction of shade structures is a feasible initiative. The investment required is outweighed by the positive impact such amenities would have on our community. I urge Lee County officials to take action and prioritize this need, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the community spirit of our youth games without risking their health.
San Carlos Youth Baseball & Softball is dedicated to our over 500 families which play each Spring and Fall season.
Please join me in urging Lee County to build shade structures at the baseball and softball fields in Three Oaks Community Park. By signing this petition, you are supporting a healthier, more enjoyable environment for all families and fans in Fort Myers, FL.
