Positive Update on Maya’s Recovery 💜
Maya’s family shared another encouraging step in her recovery following the tragic incident in Tumbler Ridge.
Doctors from the neurosurgical team say they are very pleased with Maya’s progress. Over the past five days, they gradually reduced the use of her external ventricular drain (EVD), and there has been almost no cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) draining. Because of this, they now believe Maya no longer has hydrocephalus.
The medical team has decided to remove the drain, giving Maya what they describe as a “brain holiday” — allowing her brain time to rest while also reducing the risk of infection before her upcoming surgery to place a synthetic skull prosthetic.
During that surgery, doctors will reassess everything using ultrasound and determine whether the drain needs to be placed again.
For now, it’s another hopeful step forward. Little by little, Maya continues to fight and make progress. ❤️
