Build More Public Restrooms across New York City
The Issue
Every day, millions of New Yorkers and tourists struggle to find a clean, safe, and accessible public restroom.
Whether you’re a tourist exploring Times Square, a parent with a young child, a senior citizen, a delivery worker, or someone living with a medical condition that requires frequent restroom access, finding a restroom in New York City can be frustrating and, at times, impossible.
Access to a public restroom is not a luxury. It is a basic public necessity.
Our Proposal:
We respectfully urge the Mayor of New York City, the City Council, and all relevant agencies to expand the city’s public restroom system by:
• Building more public restrooms in parks, tourist attractions, transportation hubs, and other high-traffic locations.
• Keeping every restroom clean, safe, and accessible through dedicated maintenance staff.
• Introducing a modest user fee, if necessary, to help fund maintenance while keeping facilities affordable.
• Partnering with qualified private companies to operate and maintain public restrooms under City oversight, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, accessibility, safety, and accountability.
This practical approach can improve public health, support tourism, reduce public urination, create jobs, and make New York City cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.
