Why this petition matters

Beach volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation. According to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) “The popularity of beach volleyball (formally known as sand) has exploded over the last few years. It made the quickest transition from an emerging sport to a championship sport in NCAA history. It's also the fastest growing NCAA sport over the last five years in Division I.” Due to the growth of the sport and the steadily rapid population growth in the City of Miami the demand for beach volleyball courts is increasing. Wait times to play beach volleyball at current parks are growing gruelingly long and residents are growing increasingly frustrated. City of Miami residents need more beach volleyball courts to accommodate the ever-changing demographics of our city.

With increased congestion and Miami Dade County being ranked #1 for the highest rent burden of the largest 100 counties in America, City of Miami taxpayers deserve more beach volleyball courts to be able to de-stress through exercise, socialization, and fresh air. City of Miami residents seeking to improve their quality of life must sit in never-ending traffic to travel to outside municipalities to utilize and drain their resources due to a lack of beach volleyball courts.

Miami has a unique advantage in its tropical climate, as we are the only city in the U.S. that isn’t affected by winter weather conditions which prohibit other places from playing beach volleyball year round. Building more courts and having more of a presence in the beach volleyball world will be advantageous to Miami’s tourism industry, attracting tourists and athletes from all over the world. If the City of Miami builds 4 or more courts with lights, then major events can be held there for tourism.

Building more beach volleyball courts will create new recreational opportunities for kids and adults, continue to inspire an active and healthy lifestyle, and help nurture serious athletes. Beach volleyball is a fun, family inter-generational sport that stimulates the mental and physical potential of individuals. Beach volleyball encourages a harmonious relationship between person and nature and brings quality to the physical, social, economic, and cultural environment.

De-congest our beach volleyball courts! Build more courts to meet the increasing demand by City of Miami residents! Give our youth more outdoor recreational opportunities! Help Miami be a more active and healthy city by providing more resources for rapidly growing and high-demand sports like beach volleyball.
