Build an Outdoor Exercise Station in San Pablo Park

Build an Outdoor Exercise Station in San Pablo Park
The Issue
San Pablo Park in Berkeley, California, holds a special place in the community of South Berkeley. It serves as a central hub for friends, families, and sports enthusiasts who flock from near and far to enjoy its amenities. From bustling tennis courts to vibrant games of softball and ultimate frisbee, San Pablo Park is an integral part of our neighborhood's social and recreational life.
Yet, amid all its offerings, the park lacks one important feature—an outdoor exercise station. As someone who values the importance of fitness and community engagement, I see a significant opportunity for improvement here. An exercise station would not only benefit those who currently use the park but also attract new visitors eager to enhance their well-being through outdoor workouts.
Berkeley is a city known for prioritizing healthy living and sustainable practices, and providing accessible outdoor fitness options aligns perfectly with these values. Outdoor exercise stations have been proven to encourage more people to engage in physical activities, regardless of age or fitness level, and contribute to improved mental and physical health.
This initiative requires minimal financial resources compared to the benefits it will yield. Exercise stations are relatively inexpensive to build and maintain, and they offer a high return on investment in terms of community health benefits. There are no other outdoor exercise stations within a mile radius of San Pablo Park (2/23/26 Update: Berkeley PRW confirmed the Santa Fe Trackbed conversion will have an outdoor exercise station, and construction begins later this year), and many people would benefit from easy access to this equipment. There are multiple unused sites that could be used for a new exercise station, and the City of Berkeley could model the new exercise station off of the existing structure already in use at Ohlone Park in North Berkeley.
I urge the City of Berkeley's Infrastructure Committee, and Berkeley Department of Parks and Recreation to allocate a portion of their budget to construct an outdoor exercise station at San Pablo Park. Let's enhance our park's facilities and ensure it meets the diverse recreational needs of our community.
Join me in advocating for this fantastic opportunity to improve our beloved San Pablo Park. Sign this petition to show your support for building an outdoor exercise station that will benefit countless residents and visitors.
