Petition to the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners

Every year, families in Indian River County face the same challenge: finding safe, affordable places for children to play during Florida’s extreme heat, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hurricane season.

While our community is fortunate to have many wonderful outdoor parks and playgrounds, there are very few indoor recreation options available for young children. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers need a year-round space where children can stay active, socialize, and play regardless of the weather.

We are calling on the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners to explore and support the development of a dedicated indoor children’s playground at the IG Center in Vero Beach.

Why This Matters

An indoor playground would:

✅ Provide a safe, climate-controlled play space for children year-round.

✅ Promote healthy physical activity and childhood development.

✅ Give families a reliable option during extreme heat, rain, and storms.

✅ Create a gathering place for parents, grandparents, and caregivers.

✅ Support children of varying ages and abilities.

✅ Increase utilization of an existing county facility.

What We Are Requesting

We respectfully ask the Indian River County Commission and Parks & Recreation Department to:

Evaluate available space at the IG Center for an indoor playground.
Conduct a feasibility study regarding design, construction, and operation.
Explore grants, sponsorships, partnerships, and fundraising opportunities to reduce taxpayer costs.
Include this project in future county recreation planning and capital improvement discussions.
A Growing Community Needs Growing Amenities

Indian River County continues to attract young families. As our population grows, so should the amenities that serve our children.

An indoor playground would be a lasting investment in the health, happiness, and quality of life of local families while making the IG Center an even more valuable community asset.
