Build an Animal Shelter in Maricopa, AZ

Build an Animal Shelter in Maricopa, AZ
The Issue
For the past year and a half, I, along with a small group of dedicated citizens, have actively been working on a trap-neuter-release program to manage the feral cat population within the city limits of Maricopa, AZ. Unfortunately, we lack the necessary resources and facilities to effectively address the problem. Every day, we witness these animals suffer, not due to any fault of their own, but because of the absence of adequate infrastructure that could offer them a haven and us a chance to truly make a difference.
Maricopa is the largest city in Pinal County, yet it does not have its own animal shelter. Currently, there is only one animal control officer responsible for the entire city who has to travel over 40 miles one way to the nearest shelter. This not only places a tremendous burden on our city's resources but also affects the wellbeing of countless animals who need urgent care and safe refuge.
In addition, the growing population and urban development in Maricopa highlight a pressing need for local facilities that can cater to animal welfare needs. With numerous social media posts and community reports of stray and abandoned animals, it is evident that the demand for a local shelter is critical. Providing a safe space for these animals would not only help control the pet population but also foster a greater sense of community responsibility and compassion.
The establishment of an animal shelter within Maricopa city limits would not only alleviate the logistical struggles currently faced but also promote humane and ethical treatment of animals. It would empower the local community to participate in proactive measures in pet management, reduction of stray populations, and the rehabilitation of neglected and abused animals.
By signing this petition, you are supporting a crucial step towards improving the quality of life for both the animals and the people of Maricopa. Let us come together to advocate for a necessary change that has the potential to transform our city into a more compassionate and responsible community. Please sign this petition to urge local authorities to build a county animal shelter in Maricopa, AZ.
