Build a traffic circle at 435 South exit onto Johnson Dr.
The Issue
As a frequent driver on the Southbound 435 exit ramp at Johnson Drive in Shawnee, I’ve seen firsthand how dangerous this intersection can be. During rush hour, the line of cars waiting to turn often stretches 10–20 vehicles long, creating confusion, backups, and frequent near-misses—especially for those turning east onto Johnson Drive. I’ve had several close calls myself and worry about my teenage son facing these same risks as he learns to drive.
Installing a traffic circle at this location would greatly improve safety and flow. According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts can reduce fatal crashes by up to 90%, injury crashes by 76%, and overall collisions by 35%. They also ease congestion and reduce emissions.
Let’s make this intersection safer for everyone. Please join me in urging the City of Shawnee to install a traffic circle at the 435 South and Johnson Drive exit.
