Build a skatepark on Fort Polk
The Issue
Growing up in a military family my entire life, I have experienced a lot of change. The schools changed, the friends changed, the houses changed, and the local experience changed. However, one thing always remained the same – access to a skatepark on post. Skateparks have always been special to me and countless others, serving as safe havens where friends are made and skills are honed.
Currently, Fort Polk lacks a dedicated space for skateboarding, rollerblading, and biking, forcing children and teenagers to practice in parking lots or residential areas. This not only raises safety concerns due to the proximity of moving vehicles but also puts young residents at risk of getting in trouble for skating in unauthorized zones. On a military base where life is already full of transitions and challenges, a skatepark offers consistency and a sense of community.
Building a skatepark on Fort Polk would provide a safe, structured environment for kids and teens to enjoy their favorite activities. It's not just about providing a recreational area; it's about fostering a community spirit and offering a place for personal growth and development. With dedicated space to skate, children and teens would have the opportunity to channel their energy into a positive outlet, reducing the likelihood of accidents or encounters with law enforcement.
Moreover, skateparks are inclusive facilities that welcome individuals from all backgrounds, promoting social interactions and healthy lifestyles. With Fort Polk's diverse community, a skatepark could bridge gaps and create bonds between children of various cultural backgrounds and military families.
We call upon the authorities at Fort Polk and local decision-makers to recognize the importance of this initiative. By allocating resources to build a skatepark, you will not only enhance the quality of life for its residents but also send a strong message of support for youth development and community engagement.
Please sign this petition to advocate for a skatepark in Fort Polk, allowing our children and teens a safe place to skateboard, rollerblade, and bike. Let's work together to make this dream a reality.
