The Issue

Growing up as a skater, I've developed a lifelong passion for this sport that goes beyond mere recreation—it's a vital means of expression and a powerful tool for personal development. Skateboarding has taught me invaluable life skills such as determination, resilience, and the importance of practice. It also serves as an excellent form of exercise, promoting both physical and mental well-being. It is this transformative impact that I wish to extend to the young people of Coweta, OK.

In our town, there are limited recreational options available for our youth, which leaves many kids with nothing productive to do. A skatepark would not only provide a safe and structured environment for young skateboarders to hone their skills, but it would also serve as a community hub where kids can bond, share experiences, and grow together. This initiative will help steer our children away from unproductive activities and potential encounters with crime, contributing to the overall betterment of our community.

Recent studies have shown that skateboarding can significantly bolster both mental and physical health. According to a survey conducted by the Public Health Institute in California, 74% of respondents believe skateboarding has increased their mental health awareness, while 85% say it's improved their physical fitness. Furthermore, skateparks are associated with reduced crime rates and have been constructed successfully in other towns, leading to positive community outcomes.

This initiative is also economically viable. The construction of a community skatepark would serve as an asset to our town's public park, potentially drawing in visitors and boosting local businesses. There are numerous grant opportunities and funds available to support the construction and maintenance of such community-focused projects.

The youth of Coweta deserve better. They deserve a place where they feel welcomed, an outlet where they can express themselves creatively, and an opportunity to become productive members of society. We urge the city of Coweta to consider the immense benefits a skatepark would bring to our town and to take action by allocating resources towards this essential community project.

Support our youth, support our community, and support Coweta's future by signing this petition to build a skatepark in Coweta, OK. Let's give our children a safe place to skate, connect, and thrive.
