The Issue

Growing up in Roswell, Georgia, I’ve always loved skateboarding. It's not just a hobby; it’s a way for me to express myself and stay active. Unfortunately, for residents like me, there isn’t a single local skate park to enjoy this passion safely and responsibly. Instead, we find ourselves resorting to skateboarding in places not designed for it, risking damage to both public and private property and potentially facing legal repercussions.

Roswell is a growing and vibrant community that excels in many recreational offerings. Yet, for skateboarders of all ages, from kids to adults, the absence of a dedicated skate park is keenly felt. Not only would a skate park provide a safe space for existing skateboard enthusiasts, but it would also encourage newcomers to the sport to join in a controlled and encouraging environment.

Investing in a skate park would have numerous benefits for Roswell. It would promote physical activity among youth and adults, provide an inclusive space for people of different age groups to meet up and connect, and enrich the community by adding to our recreation portfolio. Moreover, skateboarding was included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, reflecting its growing popularity and legitimacy as a sport.

Consider the success stories from other cities like Fowler park in cumming Georgia, and brook run where the addition of a skate park led to increased community engagement and youth participation in healthy activities. These parks have become vital parts of their respective communities, offering not only a recreational resource but also hosting competitions and events that draw visitors, spotlighting the city and fostering local economic activity.

I understand there are costs involved, but the long-term benefits of providing this space, like reduced vandalism, increased safety, and support for youth development, are well worth the investment. We can explore possible funding through grants, partnerships, and sponsorship from local businesses. It’s time for Roswell’s leaders to acknowledge this need and take action.

Join me in urging the city of Roswell’s parks and recreation department to prioritize building a skate park. Your signature can help make a real difference for so many current and future residents of our community. Please sign this petition to show your support and contribute to bringing a skate park to Roswell, Georgia. Together, we can create a hub that not only serves our skateboarders but enhances our community’s culture and cohesion.
