I was out with my 7-year-old and my 4-year-old, enjoying a sunny afternoon riding skateboards and bikes in an otherwise empty parking lot. All was well until we were asked to leave. It struck me how limited our recreational options are for a family that loves skating. This inconvenience has prompted me to seriously consider how much our community would benefit from having a dedicated skate park.

Ben Gill Park, located right here in Terrell, Texas, offers ample space that could perfectly house a skate park. The park is expansive and underutilized, providing the perfect backdrop for a new community hub—a place where people of all ages can freely skate, ride bikes, and build community connections.

Skateboarding is not just a hobby for many, including myself and my children; it’s a beloved passion that comes with a strong sense of community and a range of benefits for health and wellness.
