Alton needs a new skate park—and we need your support!

We, the undersigned, are calling on the City of Alton to invest in the construction of a new, safe, and accessible skate park in our downtown area.

Alton is home to a vibrant and growing community of skaters, bikers, and scooter riders—youth and adults alike—who currently lack a safe, designated space to ride, connect, and build community. The current options are limited, outdated, unsafe, and many are forced to ride in streets/private areas, or even traveling out of state just to skate! 

A new, professionally designed skate park in downtown Alton would:

• Provide a safe, fun space for skaters.
• Encourage healthy outdoor activity.
• Support mental health. 
• Give youth a positive outlet.
• Build community.
• Boost downtown activity and economic vitality by drawing families, visitors, and events.

We respectfully ask the City of Alton to:

• Prioritize a downtown location for visibility, accessibility, and community connection.
• Allocate funding or pursue grants for skate park development.
• Include local skaters and community members in the design process.
• Ensure safety features like lighting, signage, and maintenance support.

Let’s make Alton a place where our youth and active residents feel seen, supported, and inspired. A new skate park is not just a playground—it’s an investment in our future.
