Build a Safe, Modern Concrete Skatepark for Alpena's Youth
Build a Safe, Modern Concrete Skatepark for Alpena's Youth
The Issue
Why this matters:
Alpena needs a safe, active outlet for our local youth and action-sports community, but our current skatepark is failing us.
The modular ramps at Riverside Skate Park on North 9th Avenue were built in the mid-2000s.
After more than two decades of harsh Northeast Michigan winters, freeze-thaw cycles, and heavy use, the park is now severely outdated and dangerous.
Rotting materials, lifting transitions, and exposed fasteners pose a constant injury risk to skaters, scooter riders, and bikers alike.
Patchwork repairs are no longer a smart or cost-effective use of city resources.
What we are asking for:
We are calling on the Alpena City Council and the Department of Parks and Recreation to fund and construct a modern, professionally engineered, all-concrete skatepark.
A new concrete facility will:
Ensure safety: Smooth, seamless concrete eliminates the hazards of lifting prefab ramps and weather-worn wood.
SAVE TAX DOLLARS: Professionally poured concrete skateparks last for decades with virtually zero ongoing maintenance costs.
Support local youth: Action sports offer an inclusive, accessible athletic outlet for youth who may not participate in traditional team sports.
Alpena's kids deserve a clean, modern, and safe place to stay active, build community, and practice their skills. Please sign this petition to show city leadership that investing in our youth is an investment in Alpena's future!
