The Issue

Growing up in Mount Vernon, Ohio, I've always felt a sense of community and togetherness. Yet, I've noticed there's a gap when it comes to recreational activities for both adults and children. This gap led me to think about the vibrant and inclusive sport of roller hockey - a sport that not only promotes fitness and teamwork but also promises loads of fun.

Mount Vernon is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, yet it lacks some of the facilities that could provide recreation and healthy competition. By building a roller hockey rink here and establishing a league, we can offer something unique that benefits everyone. Roller hockey is not just a sport; it's a way to bring people of all ages together, build friendships, and foster community spirit.

According to research from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, roller hockey participation saw an uptick of over 20% in the past five years. Imagine the excitement and energy we'll bring to Mount Vernon by introducing this thriving activity. Many towns like ours have revitalized community interest and engagement through similar projects.

A roller hockey rink would be a valuable addition to our community's recreational infrastructure, and with public support, we can make it happen. Alongside the physical health benefits, it teaches crucial life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance – qualities that benefit individuals long after they leave the rink.

Let's rally together to create this amazing opportunity for our community. Sign this petition to show your support for constructing a roller hockey rink and forming a roller hockey league in Mount Vernon. Together, we can inspire a new generation of athletes and provide a memorable, enjoyable pastime for all.

There are several improvements which would be excellent in our City parks. While I do not believe this is on the parks master plan which was created with community input in 2020-2021, I think it would be great to have a conversation about this and hear where folks think it should go and how to make it happen. After working with those who were passionate about expanding pickleball facilities in the city we are seeing that happen. I think that the community getting involved always helps put things like this on our priority list for council.
