Hello pump track supporters!
I had a great meeting yesterday with Rick Anthony, Recreation & Parks Director for the City of Bakersfield, and Steph Thisius, Planning & Construction Director for North of the River Recreation & Parks. We discussed my personal background and my love for all things two-wheels, and what got me motivated to rally for a pump track in our community.
I was happy to hear that NOR had looked into pump tracks in past park projects and are still very interested in incorporating a pump track into their new developments in the future.
Rick was very open to hearing about my ideas and my experiences at other pump tracks like Temecula and Menifee. We talked about possibly incorporating pump tracks into a Master Plan for the community, as-well as retrofitting an existing park to include a pump track.
It was great to sit down and talk to our leaders about the widespread reach of use a community pump track can offer. I believe most of this process is about EDUCATING our leaders on what a pump track is and showing them the benefits a pump track can bring to all-ages and all-abilities.
We need more people to write to their City and County officials, or BETTER YET, show up to community meetings, city council meetings, parks & rec meetings.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right???
Ride on!
