The Issue
Due to the murky and sometimes unsafe conditions of our local waterways, swimming in Gloucester County, Virginia can often be less than ideal, particularly during the hot summer months. The jellyfish presence and limited swimming spaces only add to the deterrents. Our nearest beach, while beautiful, is not always the best option for cooling off on a hot day due to these conditions.
The construction of a public pool in Gloucester County would provide a clean, safe, and convenient location for all residents to enjoy. It would not only serve as a refreshing escape during summer heatwaves but also as a community hub where families, friends, and neighbors can gather together to relax and have fun.
Moreover, a public pool offers so much more than just a place to swim. It can serve as a venue for swimming lessons, water safety education, recreational activities or even a Gloucester Schools swim team, which are essential for both personal development and public safety. Community events such as competitions and pool parties can create a more vibrant social life and stimulate local businesses by attracting visitors.
With the addition of a diving board and water slide with drastically increase the return a lot of the younger people living in Gloucester, giving them something to do. It’s also adds a layer of fun and excitement of kids learning how to dive, while the Water Slide adds some extra thrill for the community of Gloucester.
Concessions can provide some convenient snacks and beverages to allow some cooling refreshments and quick snacks for the public to enjoy.
Let's consider the health benefits a community pool brings—from regular physical activity that strengthens the body, to stress reduction and greater mental well-being.
We urge the Gloucester County authorities to prioritize the construction of a public pool. With a growing number of families and individuals seeking recreational outlets, the time for such an investment is now. Support your local community by signing this petition and becoming part of the movement to build a public pool in Gloucester County.
