As a concerned resident of Penny Lane/On the Ridge Estates in Stoney Creek, I am writing this petition to urge The Alinea Group and the City of Hamilton to fulfill their obligation and build a playground in our neighbourhood. This issue is personal to me because my children, along with many others in our community, have no nearby place to play. The closest playground is over a kilometer away, making it inconvenient and unsafe for children to access.

It is disheartening that The Alinea Group has neglected their responsibility for 12 years to provide recreational facilities as part of their development plan for Penny Lane/On the Ridge Estates. Despite promises made during the planning phase, they have failed to deliver on this crucial aspect that enhances the quality of life for families residing here.

The absence of a playground not only deprives our children of an essential space for physical activity but also limits opportunities for social interaction and community bonding. Playgrounds serve as vital hubs where families can gather, fostering friendships among neighbours and promoting overall well-being.

According to studies conducted by reputable organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), access to safe outdoor play areas positively impacts child development. Regular physical activity improves cognitive function, reduces stress levels, enhances creativity, promotes social skills, and helps combat childhood obesity.

Furthermore, research from organizations like KaBOOM! has shown that neighborhoods with accessible playgrounds experience increased property values due to improved livability factors. By investing in a local playground facility within Penny Lane Estates - Stoney Creek area, we not only benefit current residents but also attract potential homebuyers who prioritize family-friendly amenities.

It is unacceptable that The Alinea Group has evaded their obligation while the City of Hamilton has allowed them to do so without consequence. We call upon both parties involved in this matter:

1. The Alinea Group: Fulfill your commitment to our community by constructing a playground in Penny Lane Estates. This will not only demonstrate corporate responsibility but also contribute to the well-being and happiness of the families who have chosen to make this neighbourhood their home.

2. The City of Hamilton: Hold The Alinea Group accountable for their failure to meet development requirements. Enforce the necessary measures and ensure that all future developments adhere to established guidelines, including the provision of essential recreational structures.

By signing this petition, we demand that The Alinea Group and the City of Hamilton take immediate action in building a playground within Penny Lane/On the Ridge Estates - Stoney Creek. Let us come together as a community and provide our children with a safe, accessible, and enjoyable space where they can grow, play, and thrive.
