The Issue

My grandson is a student at Lithia Springs Elementary School in Lithia Springs, GA, and it deeply concerns me that, unlike other public schools, this establishment lacks a playground for its children. As residents of this community, we pay millions in property taxes, yet our young students are denied a basic and essential part of childhood—a place to play, explore, and grow physically and socially.

Access to adequate outdoor play areas is crucial for the holistic development of children. Numerous studies have shown that regular playtime improves children's physical health, reduces stress, and enhances social skills. A playground not only serves as a fun spot for children to release their energy, but it also fosters creative play and peer interaction, which are vital elements of their overall development.

Lithia Springs Elementary serves as a cornerstone of our community, shaping the minds and futures of our children. However, without appropriate facilities, we are missing a core component of a healthy, engaged community. It’s unfair to our children to deprive them of such an important part of their educational environment, especially when the funding for such a project should be feasible given the property taxes collected.

We call upon the Douglas County School System and Douglass County authorities to allocate the necessary funds and resources to construct a playground at Lithia Springs Elementary. By doing so, we prioritize the well-being and development of our students, and we enhance our community's commitment to providing a nurturing and balanced educational experience.

Please sign this petition to urge Douglass County to invest in our children's future by providing them the playground they deserve. It’s time to turn our tax dollars into tangible benefits for our kids.

I hope you are doing well today. Thank you for your request for information regarding the playground at Lithia Springs Elementary School. I want to inform you that we are in the process of replacing the current playground equipment with new items. The district will be purchasing the new equipment this month, and we expect installation to take place over the next couple of months. I have copied Principal Small on this email, as she has also been involved in the planning for this project. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to either of us.
