I recently witnessed a harrowing incident that demonstrated the urgent need for a pedestrian bridge over Timpanogos Highway. I saw a boy from my neighborhood getting hit by a large truck while trying to cross the street at the busy intersection. The experience has left me deeply concerned for the safety of our children and other pedestrians in the area.

I reached out to Lehi Councilwoman Michelle Stallings to share my concerns and gratefully, she acted on this issue right away.  She connected me to the right people and to the right organizations.  She informed me that the city planners, members of the city council, and UDOT have all been working on this project and has secured half of the funding however this project is not currently one of their top priorities. 

We are urging UDOT to make this project their number one priority before another child gets injured or worse. Please move this project up on the timeline and help keep our children safe. 

Timpanogos Highway is a particularly busy intersection, with vehicles moving at high speeds and drivers not always on the lookout for crossing pedestrians, especially children. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that there are three schools nearby, which means that many students are required to traverse this dangerous crossing daily. Our children deserve a safe route to school, free from the fear of a traffic accident.

Moreover, the visibility at this intersection can be severely impacted by the angle of the sun during sunrise and sunset. This makes it challenging for drivers to see traffic signals, much less spot pedestrians. This visibility issue, coupled with the steady growth in residential communities and retail businesses in the area, significantly increases foot traffic, making the risk of accidents even higher.

To address this pressing safety issue, I urge the local authorities to construct a pedestrian bridge over Timpanogos Highway. Such an infrastructure project would provide a secure crossing for students and community members, significantly reducing the risk of accidents. Not only will this bridge enhance safety, but it will also promote pedestrian-friendly environments and public trust in our transportation infrastructure.

We cannot afford to wait for further accidents before taking action. The safety of our children and community is paramount.
