The Issue

Obesity and health problems are out of control. The benefits of movement and exercise are undeniable. Exercise can be fun and enjoyable when exploration, play and alternative movement is incorporated. Calisthenics, Parkour, Ninja Warrior training, and Yoga are all financially sustainable and beneficial programs of movement for exercise that will be useful to the community. Mobile, Al has plenty of space in its public parks but the playgrounds were designed for children primarily. There are extremely limited resources for free community adult fitness training equipment and I am proposing an Parkour Fitness playground available to aduets as well as children where they can run, jump, climb and train natural movements. Children, those with disabilities such as autism and ADHD and the aging community especially will benefit from this kind of exercise! If the City of Mobile will step up to the plate and help sponsor this project, leading the way by showing its interest in the healthiness of it's community, it would be a benefit in more ways than we know creating an environment for using movement as a form of preventive medicine in the fight against obesity and chronic disease and at the same time bringing the community together!
