Build a new playground in Oakland's Lakeside Park

Build a new playground in Oakland's Lakeside Park
The Issue
Growing up in the Bay Area, I have fond memories of playing at the playground in Lakeside Park near Lake Merritt. However, it's disheartening to see that the playground today is the same as it was back then, with structures that have aged poorly over the years. Other cities in the Bay Area prioritize investment in their parks, ensuring their families have access to safe and modern recreational spaces, yet, in Oakland, our children are left with outdated, rusty, and deteriorating playground equipment.
This is why I am calling on Mayor Barbara Lee and the City Council to take action and help us build a new, safe, and fun playground for Oakland families. A space that will be warm and inviting, sparking joy and imagination in our children, and creating a sense of belonging in our community.
Currently, the structures at the Lakeside Park playground are in urgent need of renovation. The equipment is not only unappealing but potentially dangerous, with rust and wear compromising the safety of our children. A rejuvenated playground should feature modern, durable equipment that adheres to safety standards and incorporates inclusive designs so children of all abilities can play together.
Investing in a new playground at Lakeside Park promises to boost community well-being and demonstrates that the city values its youngest residents. It would also be a step towards parity with neighboring cities whose parks enchant children and families alike.
We urge Mayor Barbara Lee to allocate funds and resources toward this vital community enhancement. The time has come for Oakland to join other cities in the Bay Area in providing top-notch recreational facilities. Let's come together to ensure that our children have a safe place to play and grow.
By signing this petition, you are supporting a future where Oakland's parks reflect the dedication and love we have for our community and its children. Stand with us in advocating for a new playground at Lakeside Park. Together, we can make a difference!
