Build a new footbridge with lifts at Drumry railway station

The Issue

Navigating Drumry Railway Station in Scotland has been a challenging ordeal for many, particularly when trying to reach Platform 2 or Platform 1. Those with wheelchairs/prams/suitcases or luggage who cannot use the existing footbridge due to its inaccessibility are left with no choice but to take the long detour over the Great Western Road bridge. This not only adds considerable time to our journeys, but it becomes particularly daunting and unsafe during dark nights.

For wheelchair users and others with limited mobility, the current situation is downright prohibitive. The existing footbridge does not accommodate wheelchairs, let alone provide a smooth or safe passage for those who rely on mobility aids. It's not just outdated, it's a hindrance to the Dunbartonshire community and a barrier to independence.

We propose the construction of a new footbridge equipped with lifts at Drumry Railway Station. Such an advancement would ensure ease of access for everyone, no matter their mobility level. By investing in this infrastructure, we can transform the station into a hub that welcomes all passengers, rather than alienating those who cannot scale steep steps. However, other footbridges as well, should be delivered to Bishopton Railway station, as well as Blantyre station, Blantyre is one that needs to be earmarked for the Access-for-All scheme, Same with Whitecraigs Railway station.

A new footbridge could alleviate the safety concerns we face during night-time travel and provide a direct, efficient route for all members of the community. Beyond the obvious benefits for those with disabilities, it would also enhance travel for parents with prams, elderly passengers, and those carrying luggage, making commuting a less burdensome experience for everyone.

I urge you to recognise the necessity of this development. Providing a safe and accessible footbridge with lifts is not simply an upgrade—it's a fundamental requirement for an inclusive public transport system. Please support this petition to urge the local authorities and transport agencies to prioritise the installation of a new footbridge at Drumry Railway Station.
