The Issue

For years, I've been a passionate animal rescuer here in Baldwin County, Alabama, tirelessly operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. My mission is simple—the safety and well-being of our beloved fur-babies, but it's becoming increasingly challenging due to the severe shortage of shelter space. Our current animal shelters in Foley are bursting at the seams, struggling daily to accommodate the influx of homeless and abandoned animals.

This overpopulation crisis isn't just alarming; it's been escalating for far too long. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. In Foley, this issue feels exacerbated, as existing facilities are not only undersized but also ill-equipped to provide the care and rehabilitation these animals desperately need.

The lack of shelter space leads to heartbreaking outcomes: perfectly adoptable pets are being turned away or, worse, facing euthanasia. This is not the future we envision for our community—a community known for its compassion and southern hospitality.

Now is the time to urge the City of Foley to allocate funds and resources to construct a new, state-of-the-art animal shelter. This doesn’t only mean more room; it means a proper haven where animals can be nurtured back to health in safe and sanitary conditions, and where trained staff can work extensively on adoption programs, community education, and spay/neuter initiatives to eventually reduce intake numbers.

Many successful stories from across the nation show that investing in shelters lessens the burden on regional animal control, improves neighborhood relations concerning stray animal disturbances, and even benefits local economies through associated job creation and volunteer opportunities.

Let's come together as a community to push for a shelter that not only serves as a safe sanctuary for these animals but as a hub for hope, love, and education. By signing this petition, you're advocating for the vision of a brighter, more humane future where every animal is valued and has a chance for a loving home.

Please, sign this petition to help us build a new animal shelter in Foley, AL—a leap toward a compassionate solution where no animal is left behind.
